Terry, I'm grateful for the heads up because i don't do well with sad movie endings these days! I won't watch the movie.
I like the NYPD Blue TV series more than the current movies available.

australia: jehovah’s witnesses to join redress scheme for child sexual abuse survivors.

WT "not responsible for children?" They insist that members "listen and obey" their directives about how to raise children. They present videos showing two parents "loyally" shunning the daughter whom they threw out of their home. Who were the parents being loyal TO?
Old Tony Morris so cleverly illustrating the way to motivate teens who were "delaying" baptism. Tell them they can't get a drivers license if they don't get baptized. Now if some parents are not putting pressure on the kids to get baptized they're seen as BAD parents, especially if they allow the kids to drive.
But WT doesn't see this meddling and interfering in how people choose to parent, as being responsible.
Mrs. Harry was able to get accepted into Northwestern U, so she probably had quite a few brains from a young age. Born and raised in the USA, her mindset and thinking, attitudes, etc., would be very different from British. Even tho both countries use the English language, there are many differences in the two cultures.
So a girl brought up with independent attitudes gets together with a guy who has to be obedient to his world-famous family and their traditions. Pretty soon she gets good and homesick for home and tired of having every belch reported in the news. I can imagine her complaining, "WHY can't we live where we want and WHY does our entire life get to be scheduled out for us by other people and just because your family has done this for hundreds of years, WE have to live that way too! That's not a good enough reason!!"
how are they handling the memorial this year?
zoom or open kh's?
how do they reject the wine & bread in their own home?
We've never had any zoom here so it would be hard for me to imagine the memorial being done that way!
I remember the last one i attended (by that time nobody else in my family was willing to go), it was 2011 or -12. They had it in a funeral home chapel, which had been the arrangement for a few years, since there were four congregations it wasn't possible to use the KH for all of them.
But from the first year we went to the memorial, the main thing talked about was what the gals were planning to wear and where everyone was going to eat afterwards. Most people I knew were buying new clothes for their entire family.
So we did the same thing - got all gussied up in new clothes. The event was dull with a little terror when the wine was passed and we were scared of spilling it. Then we went to someone's house and had snacks. Got home and put our new clothes away.
I never bought new outfits just for the memorial again. They weren't needed, as I learned!
what do you think of him?
i know he’s a great golfer.
we know he just got into a major car accident (again).. i respect his golfing abilities but personally i’ve never cared for him and i think the press glorifies him sooo much.
My husband says the steroids Woods used got him into trouble with the scandalous sex activities. But who knows what the deal is now, causing reckless driving. Maybe he's drinking heavily for whatever reason.
freedom!
not having to adhere to man made rules and regulations.
not being afraid of maybe “stumbling “ someone..
My granddaughter is working hard to get through uni - she would never have had all the fun and opportunities she's enjoying, if she had not left the cult at 14 years old. She's after a degree in multi-media. She's a junior now, still taking French and speaks fluently. She's taking two music business classes and accounting. She has two radio shows playing 60s psychedelic rock: One at the college radio station where she is also an operations manager and one on non-profit WFMU.org Rock n' Soul Radio. It's called The Perfumed Garden, broadcasts every Friday from 9-11pm and she is DJ Zoe Lynn!
She used to be involved with roller derby but since they had to shut down for corona she's able to shop for music for her shows, and do a lot of research for her entertaining breaks. And the point of relating all that is, her grandpa and I are having so much fun being around to rejoice and celebrate all her accomplishments!
In a couple days I'll be 68, free from WT for a long time now - maybe 11 years. Being without all the people that I thought were my indispensable friends was difficult for awhile. Now I love my total independence.
Free to learn about all the "bad" stuff like moon intention rituals and other occult pursuits. Runes and pendulums, crystal grids; burning white sage and frankincense resin; astrology, numerology - so interesting and fun.
Nobody insinuating themselves into my life or criticizing me in any way. I've read tons of books and watched scads of movies since getting out. I figure I've saved over $5,000 or more just because I don't need "business casual" outfits or hair styling. I wear rubber clogs and a gray ponytail that my granddaughter shortens once in a blue. T-shirts and jeans, no make up, just chapstick and beads.
This was fun! -It's been awhile since I gave this subject some thought♥
here is the video, "strengthen your core" by robert luccioni.
https://href.li/https://www.jw.org/en/library/videos/#en/mediaitems/vodpgmevtmorningworship/pub-jwb_202011_11_video.
here is the response by jason wynne .
Possibly he would read it because Jason copied other people, and he would most likely want to see what they read in the letter. He sent copies to Robert Luccioni's wife, David Gnam, Paul Polidoro and others.
i was reading in the shepherding book that elders should “ cultivate and maintain friendships with one another.”, and thought to myself “bulls$it!” i remember that most of the elders in my old congregation were nothing but nasty asses.
i know it may vary from congregation to congregation, but do elders generally get along with each other behind closed doors in elders meetings?
or, are they often in conflict with each other?
Our town had two English-speaking and one Spanish-speaking congregation, all using the same kh. Elder in one hall rented a lake house to an elder in the other hall. The house was put up for sale. The renter wanted to buy it, and was able to arrange financing with a third elder. The elder who owned the house did not want to sell to the renter. Because the renter was wanting to buy at the price set at first; before the seller knew of the plan to purchase the house together and then flip it.
Well there were lots of ins and outs, people took sides, the renter elder got marked in one cong but not in the other; people took sides over THAT. At the time I didn't even know what marking meant or how it was supposed to be carried out. There was a get together at a county park and we were all eating outside. The marked guy shows up and sat down next to me, started a trivial conversation. All of a sudden the p.o. from my kh and his wife got in their car to go. I went up to the wife and asked, Why are you leaving so soon? She said, "Well, we can't be seen to be talking to HIM, because then the observers would think the marking was over." WHA???
Jeez it was supposed to be all hush-hush, and it was the main topic for months, or years. The whole thing went to court, I don't remember the details. But everyone in all three kh's was just scandalized over two brothers who were elders, fighting in court over a piece of real estate.
when confronted with angus stewart’s blunt question “do you see yourselves as jehovah god’s spokespeople on earth?” the answer that came from jackson’s lips was astounding.. “that i think would seem to be quite presumptuous to say that we are the only spokesperson that god is using.
the scriptures clearly show that someone can act in harmony with god’s spirit in giving comfort and help in the congregations, but if i could just clarify a little, going back to matthew 24, clearly, jesus said that in the last days ‐ and jehovah’s witnesses believe these are the last days ‐ there would be a slave, a group of persons who would have responsibility to care for the spiritual food.
so inthat respect, we view ourselves as trying to fulfill that role.”.
don't get me wrong, i do love her.
but when she goes into cult mode, i freaken hate her.
i hate the person this pos religion has made her become.
This forum is so good for venting. Your post reminded me of times when I was young, and got so mad at my husband, and he just brushed off my concerns and refused to listen to me. So I would write him a letter and put everything into it, and he would read it because, who doesn't want to read a letter? THEN he'd be willing to talk about things.
Back then the only social media was letters to the editor, or dear abby. Maybe call-in radio advice shows.
The venting letter would not be good now though, trying to talk about JW cult. Because it wouldn't be good to write down how awful the JW cult is, and then the elders would have it, no doubt.
Nobody can hurt us as badly as the ones we care about the most, sad to say. I hope things improve for you.
